Welcome to FACTT20/21 by Marta de Menezes
- Introduction of Proximal Spaces and the website by Joel Ong and Elaine Whittaker
- Proximal Poems Poetry Reading
- Open discussion with the Bioartists and public

Proximal Spaces is a multi-modal exhibition that explores the environment at multiple scales in concentric circles of proximity to the body. This work visualizes the variegated response of the biological environment to unprecedented levels of physical distancing and self-isolation and recent developments in vaccine design that impact our understanding of interpersonal and interspecies ‘messaging’. In the spring of 2021, six Canadian poets came together to pursue a lyric response to Proximal Spaces.

Joel Ong and Elaine Whittaker, Artistic Directors of Proximal Spaces, present a reading by the Canadian poets Kelley Aitken, nancy viva davis halifax, Maureen Hynes, Anita Lahey, Dilys Leman and Sheila Stewart followed by discussion with the Bioartists that created the artworks in Proximal Spaces: Roberta Buiani, Nathalie Dubois Calero, Sarah Choukah, Mick Lorusso, Maro Pebo and Felipe Shibuya.

FACTT 20/21: Trans-disciplinary & Trans-national Festival of Art & Science is exhibited online during 2021 with different events to be announced taking place throughout the year across continents. FACTT is a project spearheaded and promoted by the Arte Institute in conception partnership with Cultivamos Cultura and Ectopia (Portugal), and, for its 20-21version, in curatorial collaboration with InArts Lab@Ionian University – Department of Audio and Visual Arts (Greece), Artscisalon@The Fields Institute and Sensorium@York University (Canada), School of Visual Arts (USA), UNAM, Arte+Ciencia and Bioscénica (Mexico), and Central Academy of Fine Arts (China).
