John Gonçalves graduated in Marketing Management in 1997 from IPAM and has been deeply involved in the management of artistic projects in various areas, including cinema, music, visual arts, dance and theater.

In 1997, he began collaborating with the ZDB gallery and, in 1999, he began managing the career of his band, TheGift, which became a pioneering example of the “Do It Yourself” movement in Portugal, achieving international recognition.With the other members of The Gift, John Gonçalves created La Folie -

 

Gift, a company responsible for the editing, distribution, management, agency, publishing and executive production of the band's work.

As well as being the band's bassist and keyboardist, John has played a key role in defining the group's strategies, both nationally and internationally, from 1999 to the present. His leadership has extended to collaborations with notable figures such as Brian Eno on the albums Altar (2017) and Verão (2019). More recently, The Gift released Coral (2022), recorded with a choir of 50 musicians in Vienna, Austria.T he band is currently touring theaters and historical monuments in Portugal and Spain.In 2009, John became responsible for the management and agency of the Amália Hoje project, a tribute to Amália Rodrigues, achieving great commercial success. From 2017 to 2022, John was on the board of WHY Portugal, Portugal's official music export structure, which promotes Portuguese music on the international stage.

He has continued as a board member of Audiogest - the Collective Management Entity for Phonographic Producers - representing the interests of AMAEI, the Association of Independent Musicians and Publishers, since 2017.

In 2021, he launched the REV app with The Gift, the first subscription platform/app for a band in Portugal, sharing The Gift's audiovisual archive and exclusive content. He continues to be a board member of the Portuguese Association of Booking Agents and Producers, from its creation in the pandemic to the present day.
